This 180 sq. ft. salon in the suburbs of Mumbai was designed to bring comfort and efficiency into a compact footprint. The brief required space for a reception desk, five salon chairs, and a shampoo station, while ensuring smooth internal movement so stylists could work freely without obstruction.
The site came with an elongated rectangular layout and higher-than-usual ceilings, which risked making the space feel narrow and disproportionate. The planning resolved this by dedicating one long wall to salon chairs and mirrors, while the opposite side was kept clear for circulation and a waiting bench. This zoning allowed the space to feel open and organized despite its modest size.
To balance proportions, the walls were visually divided into two tones. The lower portion was finished in dark wood to create a grounding effect, while the upper two-thirds was clad in a light textured wallpaper that added openness and airiness. A pinewood band ran across the wall at the joint, extending out at intervals to form shelves for stylists’ essentials.
The flooring in dark mahogany wood-finish vinyl anchored the interior, complementing the rich tones of the lower wall treatment. Together, these details created a warm yet contemporary palette that elevated the salon’s character.
The final outcome is a compact yet fluid salon environment, thoughtfully planned to balance function, aesthetics, and comfort for both clients and stylists.
